I found this really humanizing of a mega celebrity. The choice to use Kanye was awesome because of his place in pop culture and his current problems (the im’ma let you finish moment, his perceived egomaniacal behavior, his tragic loss of his mother and that we all know about it and it is just there under the surface of everything he “does”) Its pleasurable for non celebrities and Americans in general to want to crown our celebrities, but just as rewarding or more so to watch them fall. Its a twisted mix of jealousy, hatred/love, and schadenfreude. Think this is an interesting statment towards that.
Beyond that, the end, as kanye severs his…whatever, is pretty powerful. What is he forcing himself to sacrifice? Is that rat thing his talent, his fame, his power, his ego? I was super impressed with this. And super impressed with Kanye’s acting, actually. The moment when the girl meets him in the storage room was actually pretty heartbreaking. Kanye seems awfully sad to me, and I felt that that moment rang true.
